![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry, Zersch, but I'm pulling the plug on this. We could try and keep this act up some longer, but the first of April is (almost) over, and we'd have to do some very implausable things to get things to make sense again. Ecto and the rest of the team were on us when they saw this board, I forgot that moderators and admins share a permission mask. To the rest of ProM, yeah, you got it right, this is all an elaborate April Fools joke. On the 28th, I found this interesting script on the Zeta support board which displays a dialogue box to the people you specify on a given date. After editing the code so it only has a given chance of appearing, we put it up later that day. We began with a low incidence so that dialogue boxes were rare. We built up the incidence as we got closer to April First, as to not make it seem like an obvious joke. Nevertheless, Phant found out the source of the problem immediately, and we had to let him in on it. When someone mentioned this could very well be a joke, we knew we had to come up with some evidence it is not. Remember that support ticket we sent? It never happened, that image you saw was created by us. We took the code down to make it look as if the problem had been resolved, but it hadn't. Yesterday, I came up with the idea of way of ending this joke. That Gatekeeper account you saw? We had a plot set up for him. Make it seem as if he was related to the source of the dialogue boxes, then annoy one of the moderators so much that he would ban the account. After that, we would make it look as if he managed to make himself a super-admin. We would also make it look like as if he created this specific board here, where we would continue our posting shenanigans until it stopped being funny. But sadly, I screwed up on the permission masks thing, and we never got that far. Still, I like how some aspects of this joke did play out well. From Zersch and I, happy April Fools! Post Scriptum: The script really was random. So MLWW had as much chance as getting a dialogue box as the rest of you. But since the incidence was set so low (the highest chance of a message appearing van 5%), it is understandable some people got maybe one or two messages. Post post scriptum: No, it didn't matter much what browser you use. The box had as much chances of appearing in Firefox as it had in Opera or (heavens forbid) Internet Explorer. Post post post scriptum: Nobody died, so no hard feelings, OK? Post post post post scriptum: Yes, you can have this board. |

While I think it defeats the whole purpose to pull an April Fool's on any day other than April Fool's I still say it was pretty good. But disappointing knowing that all my detecting skills were in vain. |

Also I'm not sure what could push me off the edge to ban someone and I wouldn't have done it unless TW urged me to. I was actually trying to unban him, but to no avail. Seemed a little fishy to me, which is why I suspected something as I noted in that other topic. |

Good work Ecto, you made things a bit more difficult than originally planned. You were the Batman to TW and I's Riddler and Penguin (respectively). |

<_< meh ... elaborated as it was, it was still guessed in the original BMB topic. Kudos still, though. |

Expected'D. Seriously, both TW and Zersch sifting through the board code within mere minutes just to find what went wrong is suspicious. TW filing a support ticket at Zeta boards is quite suspicious too. And finally a code coming from a failed, offsite hosted arcade that somehow went rouge and started showing dialogue boxes? How could anybody not expect the joke? <_< I liked it >_>b |

We actually waited a day to comment on the dialogue boxes for this exact reason. And the support ticket was a direct response after your notion of the possibility this could be a joke. The idea was that if I would do something I would normally never even consider, you'd all think this was serious. As for why we picked the Arcade, we had to blame something, and that something had to be something concrete and verifiable. But yeah, doing a good April Fools joke is hard if not undoable. |

Omgarm are you trying to say we are unreliable and terrible administrators that would not address a real problem like this if it were to happen? Watch your tongue, cur. But yes. It happened close enough to April 1st for it to be completely suspect for one thing. You all should also thank TW, he ended it where as I wanted to keep it going for ten more years. The best thing to come of the whole thing was how emo MLWW was getting over never getting a pop up box. And Ecto claiming that MLWW finally just photoshopped a picture of a pop up box to fit in. |

Oh no, I'm saying that TW would most likely try something obscure in the middle of the night just to avoid the Zeta support ticket. And comparing board codes, come on >_> |

Yeah, the comparing board code thing was a car crash. TW felt bad for me and went along with it. |
